Saturday 23rd January 2010 sees our multi-genre, Puzzle Project promotion moving to a new Saturday slot - the 4th Saturday of each month don't you know? We're confident that with this new time we'll be able to offer out punters a better experience - no more rushing about after work on a Friday being just one fine example of this.Along with this new time come new faces as well, in the form of new residents Ali Cantor and L.K who are both very well versed in dishing out rather splendid tough, techy, and trancey beats. Also making a return to the fray is our original maestro of harder beats, Gordon Darley.
One of the above names you might just recognise if you've been a follower of Matt Church and Phil Lankester's escapades over the years is certainly LK who was with the them from the early days of Swamp Productions....
Hello there LK, how goes it?
Hi Gordon, good thanks
For those who are not familiar with you as a DJ; who are you, what do you play?
Hi am L.K aka Lee Kilby - been mixing for about 17 years on and off, but the first time I got to DJ in a London club was in 2002 with the start of Swamp at the 414, that for those who don't know was the fore runner to Puzzle Project, which I helped start and run with Matt and Phil until my departure in 2005 for things new. But in that time I played for promotions such as Zoology, Smile, Obsession and 4play. I was Probably best known for having quite a hard Euro, sound but these days I seem to have settled on the tougher side of tech trance with maybe a little funky techno.
You were resident at Swamp with Phil Lankester (Mad Phil back then) and Matt Church, but how do you feel Puzzle Project compares, and what is it about the party that made you want to get involved?
We had some awesome parties with Swamp, the 414 always had a great vibe about it and that certainly hasn't changed. The venue itself has change quite a bit and now looks great with comfortable seats too. I started to go back down to Puzzle and soon realised how much I missed it. Puzzle seems to me to be a much more polished production and I'm very excited to be part of it once more.
What planted your seeds of love for dance music? Do you remember the first time you cut some rug in a club to 4/4 beats?
When I was about 14 - back in 1991 - it was going to my local youth club and finding someone had brought their decks down with a P.A system and was banging out hardcore and techno. Since then I've been hooked and before long I started going to Spiral Tribe and Fear Teachers free parties across the country. Things seemed very exciting back then. I guess the first club I went to was Club UK before it got closed down, listening to DJs like Jeff Mills and Carl Cox.

Not only are you one of our new residents, you are also going to be bringing a slice visual pie to party - and I'm not just talking about your dashing James Bond looks - can you tell us a little more about this?
Yeah I've just secured a commercial license for G.Force which creates sound to visual effects for use with a projector that can also mix in images and video in at same time. I hope to have this up and running very soon.
It's all systems go at Puzzle HQ for the future, with some big changes afoot. Where do you see the party going in the next 12 months?
We seem to have a great team at puzzle, and I'm feeling really confident about the future, knowing how ambitious Matt, Phil and the rest of the team are so who knows. But here's hoping for nice surprises.
Lots of people in the industry will tell you that a residency at a respected party is influential to a DJ's career. What else do you see happening for LK the DJ in the coming months, any plans for world domination?
To be honest I haven't given it much thought although I am always open to new opportunities. I think I've been absent for so long, I'm just happy with first reproving myself as DJ and seeing what this year brings.
Now for some general silliness...
Apples or pears?
Oranges
Tell us about the most embarrassing item of clothing you just can't get rid of...
The most embarrassing item of clothing would have to be my long-johns. I work outside and it gets cold this time of year. So glad no one can see me in them.
If the future of mankind depended on it, who would you rather wine, dine and ultimately 'go back for coffee' with... Dot Cotton or Jo Brand? And of course, why?
Tough one - Jo Brand. I guess she would probably be more entertaining and you wouldn't be so worried about breaking her although suffocation maybe an issue.
You're in a pub, and Indiana Jones is staring at your missus; how would you sort him out?
The Queen Vic's bust seems to be a winner
Who is your favourite cartoon character, and why?
Brian the dog out of Family Guy, a pot smoking talking dog what more could you want.
Thanks for your time Lee. We're looking forward to having you back on 23rd!
